Ok, the good news is that we FINALLY got some snow last night. It is really chilly outside, but everything looks magical with its lovely dusting of white. We still have teeny tiny flakes coming down! Yay!
The bad news is that I think a virus infected the firewall on my poor, sad laptop. Steve talked to the computer guru at school, and she's bringing in geek reinforcements by calling her brother-in-law to ask him how to fix it. Let's all keep our fingers crossed because I am truly spoiled by having my laptop in the kitchen--especially since all of my recipes are on it. (By the way, please know that I use the word "geek" with the warmest intentions. I would love to be a geek!)
We were invited to a Bible study on night before last. There were twelve people, and I only knew two, but it seems like a pretty fun group. I knew things were going to be ok when Rick, our fearless leader, started off on a tangent about how he'd do his Jesus movie differently (if he were to film one), and someone suggested casting Dr. Phil as Jesus.
One of my new year's resolutions is to clear out all of the boxes of stuff in my basement and garage. (We moved into Steve's Mom & Dad's house 18 months ago after they moved to South Carolina. With the house also came most of their stuff. I spent the first summer boxing up the stuff they had in the main part of the house so we could move in, but then we added a lot of our stuff to both the basement and the garage, so both places still really cluttered.) I could really use the Clean Sweep Team, but since they refuse to leave Southern California, I've decided to spend at least a little time each day working on it myself.
I started going through boxes in the basement to clear out the area I want to use for crafts and scrapbooking, and I found my old Nintendo. Simon has now been introduced to the joys of Super Mario 1-3, Tetrus, Dr. Mario, and Duck Hunter. He's in little kid heaven since we have so far refused to buy him a real game system. (I know too many kids his age who have become complete vidiots, so he hasn't gotten an Xbox, Playstation, Game Boy, Wii, etc.) If he behaves himself, I'll pull out my ancient Atari, and teach him how to play Q-Bert, Pitfall, Pac-Man, and the like.
While Simon's having all of his fun in the den, I've been going back and forth between sorting through things in the basement, and trying to figure out what's wrong with my laptop. At first I thought my firewall was acting squirrelly, but it seems to have gone from bad to worse. I have a few computer geek friends, but I don't talk to any of them frequently enough to call them up and ask for free computer advice without feeling really guilty. My poor laptop is on it's last legs, but I really can't justify spending the money for a new one since we have a perfectly good desktop machine in the basement. I hope my faith healing works for my laptop, because I will really miss it if it doesn't.
The only really good news is that I've gotten a lot done in the basement. Steve has been cleaning his office on the other side of the basement while I've been working on my side, so we've been listening to "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" downloaded from itunes while we work. Hopefully, I'll have a nice studio area to set up my scrapbooking and craft stuff by the end of the week.
Feel free to say a little prayer for my poor laptop.
